Welcome to Dante’s Divine Comedy to Color: A Coloring Book of 26 Classic Illustrations Inspired By Artworks By Priamo della Quercia (Hell and Purgatory) and Giovanni di Paoli di Grazia (Heaven) 1444–1450.
Not for the faint of heart!
In 1320, Dante Alighieri completed one of the most ambitious poems ever written: a first-person journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven, guided first by the Roman poet Virgil and later by his beloved Beatrice.
A little over a century later, around 1444–1450, an unnamed patron in Siena commissioned a beautiful visual response to that poem — a manuscript now known as Yates Thompson MS 36, held today at the British Library.
Two artists illustrated it. Priamo della Quercia painted the punishments of Inferno and Purgatorio, and Giovanni di Paolo illustrated Paradiso.
You can see the originals at the Public Domain Review). The colors will inspire you.
We’ve also reproduced all 26 original illustrations in color on the cover of this book.
We’ve inserted “blank” pages between the drawings so you don’t have to worry about your markers bleeding through. But instead of leaving those pages truly blank, we’ve added mini-images from other Bijoux Coloring Books for your enjoyment.
